Flowers and plants suitable for hanging

We talked about this in the last post: sometimes, for reasons of space, convenience on account of pets or children, or just to give a new lease of life to a corner or a wall that looks a bit sorry for itself, the hanging pot or planter is always a stylish choice. But how do we combine them? What plants and flowers should we choose for our hanging pots and planters?

Begonias: symbols of Italy in bloom

Out of the 1000 species in the Begoniaceae family, the begonia pendula is the most popular on balconies and terraces. It is ideal for hanging pots and planters because its height can vary from 25 to 40 cm. Place them in areas with some shade, as direct sunlight could burn the leaves and flowers.

Ferns: elegant and ornamental

As well as being elegant, ornamental houseplants, ferns are also anti-pollution, as they have the ability to absorb atmospheric pollutants through the tiny stomas on their leaves. They then transform the pollutants into lignin and trap them inside their stems. Ferns are perfect houseplants, and all we need to do is to make sure they get enough moisture. How? By spraying water onto the leaves or leaving a little water in the saucer under the pot.

Daisies: timeless simplicity

A flower that will never fail to put you in a good mood! Just two things: daisies need lots of sun and lots of water. For the rest, just a little care is all it takes to keep your balcony in bloom for the whole summer.

Ivy: choreographic green

As a rule of thumb, it you want to grow ivy at home, it needs to be in a cool, bright place that is not in direct sunlight. If you leave it to grow, then its cascading foliage will bring a touch of chic into your home.

Geraniums: colourful and feminine

Did you know that the cascading geranium can grow up to 2 metres long? The cascading geranium is a hardy variety and can be grown easily in pots on windowsills, balconies and terraces.

Petunias: a riot of colour

A variety of shapes and infinite colours, according to species and variety: from pink to white, yellow, purple, through to a range of reds. There are also two-tone varieties, double flowers or blooms with serrated petals. Cascading petunias are the ideal solution when it comes to enhancing a terrace or for creating a composition of flowers to hang.
